Expect nothing less but hilarity and side-splitting humor from one of my favorite authors, Davis Sedaris, in his latest book “When You Are Engulfed In Flames.” If you’ve ever read Sedaris before, you know you’re in for a real treat with this work of satirical short stories.

For most of us a trip to the beach is our favorite way to escape. We dream of deep blue oceans, silver sand, delicious seafood and breathtaking sunsets. A Trip to the Beach : Living on Island Time in the Caribbean, by Melinda & Robert Blanchard shares with readers the true story of a beach visit that doesn’t end. The Blanchard’s, disillusioned owners of a specialty gourmet food company in Vermont, embark on their dream of moving to the Caribbean Island of Anguilla to open a top notch restaurant. The story take you through up’s & downs of obstacles and successes including adjusting to “island time” , political dealings, finding limited building supplies, and customs technicalities. Their story is told with humor and warmth as the couple develops close bonds with the natives of Anguilla. It is a message of perseverance and appreciation for their new environment as well as understanding their personal transformation.

I love that book by Sedaris. Not many books actually make me laugh out loud. I also talked back to him while I was reading it!

I love David Sedaris as well. But currently I’m reading “Bliss” by Peter Carey. It was the Booker Prize winner in England a number of years back. It is a dark, humurous book and I recommend it. I’ve found that reading books that won the Booker Prize almost always guarantees a good read.
